New head teacher for Pennyland Primary, Thurso

Morna O’Hagan has been appointed to the post of Head Teacher at Pennyland Primary School, Thurso.

Morna is currently Acting Headteacher at Pennyland Primary School.  She took up her first teaching post at Castletown Primary School in 1974 for two years, then moved on to Halkirk Primary School for a further two years.  Morna left to have a family and continued to do supply work in Caithness schools and prior to returning to work full time did some part-time Learning Support teaching at Canisbay Primary School.

Morna returned to full-time teaching in 1987 at Pennyland Primary School and has been there since.  She was promoted to Senior Teacher in 1990 and then to Depute Head Teacher in 1996.  She covered as Acting Headteacher at Pennyland for 23 months from 2000-2002 and again a few years later.  She has been Acting Head Teacher again since August 2010 following the retiral of the previous Head Teacher, Paul Hagan.  Morna has successfully supported the follow-through process of the HMIE Inspection.
