Couple’s big day goes ahead
The Highland Council’s Registration Service has stepped in at short notice to ensure a young couple’s wedding could go ahead.
David Young (37) and Lucy Thompson (29) from Eyemouth were due to get married at The Inverness Archive and Registration Centre at 3.30pm today. The couple have been staying in Aviemore waiting for friends and family members from England to join them. Unfortunately the bad weather has meant that the guests were not able to travel north as planned. Disappointed, David and Lucy were still going ahead with their wedding today but when the rail service between Aviemore and Inverness was suspended due to the weather, they feared their special day was ruined.
The Highland Council’s Registrars did not want to disappoint the couple so at very short notice alternative arrangements were put in place so the couple could get married in Aviemore at 1.30pm today. The ceremony, conducted by Jeanette MacKenzie was held at the Cairngorm Hotel in a room provided free of charge by the owners. The hotel is approved to host civil ceremonies throughout the year.
The Highland Council’s Chief Registrar, Diane Minty said: “We are delighted that we were able to make alternative plans at short notice so David and Lucy were able to get married. I am sure they will never forget their special day and we wish them all the very best for their future together. Their family and friends will be looking forward to celebrating with them and hearing about all their Highland adventure.”
