Inverness Infirmary Bridge closure extended

The Infirmary Bridge, a footbridge which spans the River Ness in Inverness, will remain closed until Tuesday 21 December as the result of severe weather which has delayed essential maintenance work.

The long period of sub-zero temperatures has delayed the placing of the new concrete.

The bridge will be reopened as soon as possible, but the present target date is Tuesday 21st December.

Urgent repairs are needed to address a deterioration of the concrete abutments at both ends of the bridge.  Steel fixings have now been removed from each abutment and are being refurbished. For reasons of public safety, the bridge must be kept closed while these structural members are not in place.

Work is being carried out for The Highland Council TEC Services by McGregor Construction (Highlands) Ltd.

The public is urged to observe the barriers that have been erected to protect the works.
