Social dance festival brings Lochaber pupils together
Primary 4 and 5 pupils from 6 Lochaber Primary Schools came together recently for a Social Dance Festival held at Caol Primary School in Fort William.
Each year the children are taught traditional Scottish Dances at their schools in the weeks leading up to the festival. This year’s dances were the Circle Waltz, Canadian Barn Dance, Flying Scotsman and Strip the Willow.
Highland Council’s Active Schools Co-ordinator Bridget Thomas said: “This annual event is a great chance for the youngsters to mix with their peers from other schools.”
“Eight year old Jamie Lee Laverty, gave a magnificent demonstration of Highland Dancing while the other children caught their breath in a well earned break.”
The day was organised by Primary PE teacher Carol Cairns and Active Schools Co-ordinator, Bridget Thomas.
Bridget added: “Our thanks go to Lidl and Brekenridge, who kindly supplied pure fruit juice drinks and fruit for the break.”
