Ward Forum gets a lesson on Education

The Highland Council’s Cromarty Firth Ward Forum has invited the Head Teachers of the two local Academies to attend their Ward Forum next Thursday (25th February 2010).

The main subject to be discussed is the Council’s Education Service. The meeting will focus on the two secondary schools based in the Ward, exploring the key challenges that schools and pupils face as well as how schools and communities can work together.  Mr Ken MacIver, Head Teacher of Alness Academy and Mr Sandy McGregor Acting Head Teacher of Invergordon Academy will be there, and this time they will be the ones answering questions!

Ken McIver said: “Coming to the Ward Forum gives us an opportunity to hear from the public and community representatives what they think and to answer any questions they have about education provision.”

Highland Councillor Martin Rattray noted: ”We are very proud of the education that local young people can access and we are very pleased to have a chance to hear more about the key priorities and the challenges and opportunities faced directly from the two Head Teachers. It is a good chance to find out more about what our Academies are doing and I would encourage people to come along to what I am sure will prove to be a very interesting evening.”
The Ward Forum is being held in the Ardross Community Hall, Ardross on Thursday 25th February from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There will also be time available for questions from the public.  Teas and coffees will be available from 7pm to 7.30pm.

Ward Forums have been set up across the Highlands to enable the public to have their say in what's happening in their area. The forums meet regularly in public led by the Ward Elected Members in each area, assisted by the Ward Manager. Representatives of Community Councils and partner agencies, such as the police also attend the forums.  Anyone with an enquiry about their Forum; would like to submit questions in advance of the meeting; or have any special requirements/needs to help them take part, can contact Helen Ross at the Invergordon Service Point or by phoning 01349 855524 or by emailing helen.ross@highland.gov.uk.
