Volunteers spruce up Caithness bird hide

A bird hide in Caithness received a fresh coat of paint this weekend (Sunday 25 July 2010) as a local countryside volunteer group set to task with brushes and preservative.

The Caithness Countryside volunteers meet regularly to undertake conservation tasks in the countryside.

Six volunteers turned out to help paint the hide at Loch of Mey and The Scottish Ornithologists' Club provided the preservative for the task.

Dieter Tuerlinckx, Highland Council’s East Caithness Countryside Ranger said: “A great thanks to those who turned up on a day when the weather was not very promising. I am sure that visitors will be delighted to go and see the birds on the Loch of Mey from the comfort of a freshly painted hide. It’s important to keep this wonderful local resource for bird watching in good condition hopefully for many more years use.”

The Caithness Countryside Volunteers work together with the Highland Council Countryside Rangers, who are part of the Highland Council Planning and Development Service.
