Death of former Highland Councillor

Former Highland Councillor Mrs Rita Finlayson from Helmsdale has died after a long illness. She passed away on Sunday at the Lawson Memorial Hospital, Golspie. A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Saturday 31 July from her home at Anvil House, Strathnaver Street, Helmsdale, starting at 11 am.

Rita served on the Council between 1999-2007, representing Brora/Helmsdale where she was at the centre of community activity, serving on the Community Council, the Rotary Club, Crossroads and helping co-ordinate voluntary groups. She took a particular interest in housing and social work matters.

Convener Sandy Park said: "Rita was a tremendous leader in her community and made a big contribution during her eight years on the Council. She will be sorely missed."
