Council awards contract for new Inverness school

The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee has awarded a contract for  a new primary school to be built at Milton of Leys, Inverness.

Morrison Construction will commence work imminently on the £7.6 million project, which is scheduled to be ready by August 2011.

Funding for the construction of the school is being provided from within the Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Service capital programme.

The new school will accommodate initially up to 279 primary pupils in 11 classrooms and 60 nursery pupils in two sessions. In addition, there will be provision for a community room and wraparound childcare. The school is designed to allow additional classrooms to be added in the future, if required.

The Milton of Leys Primary School catchment area will include the Milton of Leys and Dell of Inshes housing estates.

Councillor Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee said: “The need for a new primary school for the Milton of Leys community has clearly been established and I welcome this latest progress towards providing a new school that will not only serve this community but ease the pressure on Inshes Primary.”
