Highland bands plan to ‘get noticed’

Seven young bands from all over Highland will converge on Inverness’s Spectrum Centre on Saturday 26th June as they compete to win the first ‘Get Noticed’ competition.  This new ‘battle of the bands’ is being run by The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer in collaboration with CBand.co.uk and Thunder In The Glen.

Norman Bolton, the Council’s Music Development Officer said: “This event  has grown from an initial phone conversation to being a full blown day of preparation and competition.  The winning band will be given a 45minute gig at August’s Thunder In The Glen event in Aviemore as well as a days recording studio time,  a prize package which will be hotly contested by all the bands involved.”

Bands from Portree, Grantown, Inverness and Bettyhill are taking part and the judges decisions will be announced at the end of the event.

Bands will be sound checking throughout the day with full professional technical support, an aspect of the event which has also allowed the organisers to offer technical training spaces for school pupils.

Norman added: “`Get Noticed’ is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with professionals and schools whilst offering an element of technical training.  We, as a Council offer opportunities for as many musical genres as possible and this event is yet another example of the high quality events we can produce.”

The evening competition will open doors at 6.30pm with battle commencing at 7pm.  It’s advisable to book tickets (£5) in advance by telephoning Angeline Walker on 01349 863441 as there will be limited availability at the door.
