New Recycling Centre In Fort William

Lochaber residents will soon be able to conveniently recycle more of their household waste with the opening of The Highland Council’s Recycling Centre in the Ben Nevis Industrial Estate in Fort William. Funded by the Scottish Executive’s Strategic Waste Fund and constructed in partnership with Lochaber Aggregates, the Centre will open to the public on Wednesday 19 April at 10am.

Householders will now be able to take cans, car batteries, cardboard, engine oil, garden waste, gas cylinders, glass bottles & jars, paper, rubble, soil, scrap metal, textiles, tyres, white goods and wood to the centre where separate containers and skips will be available for the material to be recycled. Furniture can be donated to LEG (Lochaber Environmental Group) for reuse by using the container provided at the Recycling Centre.

It is hoped that 60% of the waste that is taken to the Recycling Centre will be recycled, making a healthy contribution to the Council’s 18% recycling target.

The Recycling Centre is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm and householders using the site are advised to separate their waste from materials for recycling before they go to site. All users will be met by a Council operative who will direct them to the correct container.

As a result of the new Recycling Centre opening the Fort William Mobile Skip Service will cease with effect from Saturday, 15th April 2006.
