Pupils from 14 Highland Primary schools will go head to head later this week in the topical knowledge Scotland-wide competition – Euroquiz
Teams of four P6 pupils from Avoch, Banavie, Cradlehall, Dingwall, Dornoch, Duncan Forbes, Farr (Inverness), Kilmuir, Kingussie, Merkinch, North Kessock, Portree, Scourie and Smithton Primaries have been swotting up on their Euro-info in preparation of the battle of knowledge.
The teams will compete in the Highland heat on Thursday 11th March from 10:30am to 1pm at Millburn Academy, Inverness. The winning team and school will go on to represent the authority at the Scottish final.
Organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust and sponsored by Standard Life, schools from all 32 Scottish local authorities will be in the national final on Monday 10 May in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament, in Edinburgh.
The sort of questions that the pupils might be expected to answer cover history, geography, sport, culture, the European Union and general knowledge.
The aim of the competition is to increase knowledge of Europe and the European Union in an enjoyable and interesting way.
Councillor Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee said: “Euroquiz is a great way to encourage our young people to raise their knowledge beyond their own doorsteps. Each school gets very involved in the learning process which expands their awareness of European topics. I wish all the teams the best of luck.”
