Cairngorms National Park consultation

The public is being given a second period of consultation to respond to  proposals by the Scottish Government to reduce the size of the board of the Cairngorms National Park Authority from 25 to 19 from 2 October 2010.

The deadline for comments is 31 May 2010.

It is proposed that the new board comprise 7 local council nominees, 7 ministerial appointments and 5 directly elected members.

The two larger local councils – Highland and Aberdeenshire – will each be invited to make 2 nominations and Angus, Moray and Perth and Kinross councils, 1.

The consultation is being conducted to modify the designation order governing the establishment of Scotland’s second national park.

Also proposed is the extension of the southern park boundary to include part of Perth and Kinross and the introduction of greater delegation in the planning decision-making process.

The consultation document can be viewed via the home page of the Council’s web site, or via www.scotland.gov.uk/publications/2010/02/19115042/0.
