Inverness Town Twinning Seminar
Town twinning via the internet - otherwise known as ‘e-twinning’ – will be one of the topics of discussion at a seminar on Town Twinning being held this weekend in Inverness.
Visiting representatives from Augsburg, Germany will be among some of the speakers at the Inverness Town Twinning Seminar hosted at The Highland Council’s headquarters at Glenurquhart Road, Inverness on Saturday 20 March.
Chair of the Inverness Town Twinning Committee Kathleen Matheson will chair the seminar along with the Provost of Inverness Councillor Jimmy Gray who will open the seminar.
Kathleen Matheson said: “Twinning is a marvellous opportunity to learn about each others cultures and establish friendships which are life long. Our aims are to promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of out twin towns Augsburg, La Baule and Saint-Valery-en-Caux.”
Mrs Matheson and Allan Sellar will give a history on twinning from an Inverness perspective; and representatives from Caithness and Moray will also highlight their own twinning experiences.
Twinning from the perspective of Highland young people will be considered when representatives from Millburn Academy, Farr Primary (Inverness) and the UHI Millennium Institute give a presentation.
Alyn Smith MEP will give the keynote speech on citizenship and its relationship to twinning.
Delegates will have the opportunity in the afternoon to participate in workshops on e-twinning; culture and sport; and funding and economic benefits of twinning.
