Dingwall musician invited to join National Jazz Orchestra

A young trombone player from Dingwall has earned himself a place in the National Jazz Orchestra of Scotland.

Peter Thornton, who has recently turned 15, is a 3rd year pupil at Dingwall Academy.  The talented musician currently plays trombone in the Highland Regional Youth Orchestra and the Highland Youth Big Band as well as performing with other local groups.

The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton said:  “The selection process to join any of the national orchestras is very rigorous so it is a great success for Peter to be awarded a place. I am sure all his fellow performers in the Highland Regional Music Groups would like to join me in congratulating him and wishing him well. We look forward to following his progress and to listening him perform with the National Jazz Orchestra in the future.”

Any business or individual who would like to help Peter by making a contribution towards the £800 fees required for his National Jazz Orchestra of Scotland place should contact Norman Bolton on 01349 863441.
