Pupils To Record Top Hit For National Event

Around 50 schoolchildren from Nairn Academy will head into the recording studio tomorrow to record the theme song for this year’s Choices for Life event.

Choices for Life is a multi-media, themed show, aimed specifically at Primary 7 pupils throughout Scotland to give them information about the dangers of drugs alcohol and smoking.

The event is delivered through drama and music – performances by youth theatre group PACE and well known pop acts.

The Highlands and Islands became involved in the event for the first time last year with Eden Court Theatre the venue for the well received Highland leg of the show.

The hugely popular, multi-media themed event, co-ordinated by the SDEA (Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency) on behalf of ACPOS, began life in Strathclyde six years ago, but last year was the first time it was rolled out in the North.

This year’s show will again be seen by over one thousand Primary 7 pupils from the Highland area on 24 and 25 May at Macdonald Highland Resort in Aviemore. The island shows will also take place in the weeks that following in venues on the Western Isles, Shetland and Orkney.

Nairn Academy pupils will go to the Byre recording studio in Kiltarlity to record the Choices for Life theme on Friday (21.4.06) and their recording will later be available for download on the Choices for Life website.

The school will perform the song, entitled Choices, which was written by Scottish songwriter John McLaughlin live at the Highland event. He has penned hits for chart topping bands Westlife and Busted previously.
