Council welcomes surfers to Caithness
The Highland Council will extend a warm Caithness welcome to the world’s most up and coming surfers, tomorrow evening (Tuesday 25th April, 7pm) at the Royal Hotel in Thurso.
The Association of Surfing Professionals, Europe is bringing the World Qualifying Series to Caithness’s coast for the 5-star O'Neill Highland Open starting tomorrow Tuesday 25th April running till 2nd May 2006. Over 160 surfers will compete at Scotland's northernmost coast in this landmark event.
Area Convener Councillor David Flear and Area Education, Culture and Sport Committee Chairman Councillor Roger Saxon will present the competition organisers with new surfing prizes donated by The Highland Council. Councillor Flear will present the ‘Caithness Cup’ and Councillor Saxon will present the ‘Caithness Challenge Cup’.
Councillor Flear said: "This is a prime example of Highland Council working in partnership with organisations and groups in Caithness Area who we hope will enjoy their experience and stay while they are here and come back again in the future."
