Council to the fore in IAA
The Highland Council picked up three prizes in the latest Inverness Architectural Association (IAA) Awards ceremony held on Friday evening in Strathpeffer. In the 6 categories, the Council received the following awards and commendations:
More than 70 entries were submitted for the IAA awards, with 36 projects short-listed in five geographical areas – Highland Central, Highland East, Highland West, Highland North as well as Orkney and Shetland.
Leader of The Highland Council, Councillor Michael Foxley said: “These awards are real credit to The Highland Council, our officials and the input from local members.
“I am particularly pleased by the justified award to Acharacle Primary for its very innovative use of timber. This is a real credit to the input from Brian Hemming, Highland Council’s Estate Strategy Manager, the staff of the school and the strong local steering group.”
He added: “The Highland Archive and Registration Centre building is a superb resource for the Highlands and for visitors from across the world researching their family history and genealogy. It has allowed us to repatriate vital local historic documents from national vaults in Edinburgh to the Highlands
