Festive FUSION events in Nairn
A series of FUSION events for young people in Nairn run by The Highland Council’s Education Culture and Sport service will commence again on Saturday 27th November with a “Youth Cinema” night. The FUSION concept targets the secondary age group and is primarily an opportunity for young people to engage in a range of activities and events on Friday and Saturday evenings over the winter months.
Last year Nairn hosted 6 events in total that were primarily based in the Youth Café and the Community Centre. All events are free and are aimed at providing positive activities for young people to engage and socialise in. The final event last winter culminated in a FUSION Festival – “Remix” - whereby young people were given the chance to “walk on water” in giant hamster balls at Nairn Swimming Pool. There was also a Blue Light Rave with a live acoustic session in the Youth Café the same evening.
This year the programme is slightly different and will include two pool events, with the aim of creating a Youth Night at Nairn Swimming Pool as a regular feature in the new pool timetable.
The first night, however, is a Youth Cinema night whereby the popular Twilight – New Moon will show at Nairn Community Centre. The event is free and the doors will open at 7.15pm.
December will offer a “Fusion Festivities Weekend” (17th – 18th December), which will take place in the Swimming Pool on the Friday evening and the Youth Café on Saturday. Young people will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities on Friday 17 all with a “Health & Wellbeing” theme: youth yoga, pampering treats, healthy eating advice and support, drugs and alcohol information along with pool sessions and gym inductions. The “Waterwalkerz” hamster balls will also be out – be warned this is a very popular activity so make sure you come early to avoid disappointment!
Saturday 17th December will be an opportunity to chill out and relax before the week of all the Christmas dances. There will be live acoustic music in the Youth Café in the form of local bands. There will also be a special set from local samba band, Press Play. There will be loads of African drums for young people to sit and join in on the jamming. Young people are also invited to bring their own instruments along if they play one.
All events take place between the hours of 7pm – 11pm unless otherwise stated on publicity. There will be more information released in January with details relating to the FUSION 2011 dates and events.
