Town House hosts civic reception to celebrate Northern Meeting Piping Competitions

The Provost and members of The Highland Council’s City of Inverness Committee are hosting a civic reception at Inverness Town House this evening (1 September) for members of the Northern Meeting Piping Competition organising committee.

Following the reception the Provost and guests will hear a short piping recital on the steps of the Town House by the Pipes and Drums of the Queens Own Highlanders Regimental Association Band at 8:15pm.

The civic reception and recital is to celebrate the impending Northern Meeting Piping Competitions taking place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd September in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness.

More than 100 pipers will participate in this year's Northern Meeting Piping Competitions.  Pipers from the UK, France, Canada, New Zealand and the United States will converge on Inverness for the event, now in its 158th year.

Provost of Inverness Jimmy Gray said: “The City of Inverness Common Good Fund is delighted to sponsor the Northern Meeting Piping Competitions.  Without a doubt this is one of the most prestigious and long established events in the piping calendar that attracts pipers across the world. Inverness is proud and honoured to host such an iconic event.”
