Lochaber pupils vie for triathlon trophy
Over 50 children recently took part in Lochaber Primary Schools triathlon organised by Highland Council’s Education Culture and Sport staff and sponsored by No Fuss Events.
Eighteen schools participated, each entering a team of 3 pupils, one swimmer, one cyclist and a runner.
The event on Friday 10 September started at Lochaber Leisure Centre, with a timed 200m swim – 8 lengths of the pool. The cycle leg then started from Braveheart car park, with the riders being set off at intervals corresponding to the times achieved by the swimmers. The 4 mile cycle up Glen Nevis and back to Braveheart took about 20 minutes, and then the runners were tagged and raced up over the track and back to the pool, with the first to arrive back in the park winning the overall schools trophy.
Thanks go to event organizers, Gary Davidson and the staff at the Leisure Centre, PE specialists Carol Cairns and Sandra Chisholm, Active Schools Co-ordinator, Bridget Thomas, the No Fuss Events team, and to the high school pupils who marshaled the race.
The overall winners were Banavie Primary, with Spean Bridge in 2nd place and Inverlochy taking the bronze medal.
