School “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” winner receives prize

Rayanne Truscott from Inverness High School has won first prize for her school in The Highland Council Waste Aware Team’s “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” competition held earlier this year at the Energy + Action = Change day in Inverness.

The Energy + Action = Change event saw many different schools and organisations from all over Highland come together to share their experiences on what can be done at a local level to help protect our environment.  The “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” quiz was just one of the many activities the pupils took part in. Although a bit of fun, there was a serious message to get across.

Highland Council Waste Management Assistant Steve McDermott said: “We had a great time doing the quiz with the young folk and were genuinely delighted with the breadth of knowledge they had on environmental issues and especially waste.  It was a close run thing but Rayanne just pipped a number of other contenders at the post.”

Steve presented Rayanne with her prize at the Community 'Green' Gala at Inverness High School on Saturday (11 September). Although not a million pounds, the prize was a Green Johanna composter worth £100. The rodent proof composter can be used to compost cooked food, meat and fish and will be used in the school as an education tool.
