2010 SMHAFF Highland Events

The 4th Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival (mhfestival.com) has grown to become one of Scotland's most valued cultural events. For the second year, Highland events are included in the festival programme, and this year there are 12 events in Highland

Now a regular on the arts scene, the Festival (1 – 24 October) features plays, puppetry, a fashion show, arts workshops, exhibitions and film screenings to raise awareness and explore mental health in its broadest sense.

Highland Festival organiser Keith Walker says: “We have a broad range of the arts in this year’s Highland festival and there really is something in there for everyone. We are excited by the range of professional and non-professional artists who are prepared to share their insights and experiences of mental health with the public. It is not a matter of balancing artistic integrity and social purpose, we feel they enhance one another.”

"Being directly involved in the creative arts can be an important part of supporting a person's recovery from mental health problems. The arts are also a very valuable way to raise the awareness of mental health issues among the general public."

The Festival is supported by The Highland Council.

The line up includes the following highlights:
