Sunart youngsters show they have the x-factor
Young members of the Sunart Centre Youth Club recently (31 March 2010) staged their own version of the X-Factor.
A total of fourteen youngsters took part with acts showing a diversity of talent, showcasing rock and traditional music and a variety of dance disciplines and styles.
The youth club takes place on Thursday nights in the Sunart Centre in Strontian, and attracts young people from Ardgour, Acharacle and Lochaline as well as local children in Strontian, thanks to The Highland Council Community Transport funding administered by the Sunart Centre Management Committee.
In addition to the wide range of activities on offer both inside and outside, youngsters have been practicing hard over the last few weeks for this competition and the results certainly paid off.
Judges Katie Sharp, Kay Malcolm, Sean Turner and Jim Hunter had a very difficult task in deciding which acts merited the coveted first prize, with best group eventually going to Andrew Jackson (Ardgour) and Billy Drury (Salen) for their guitar and drum version of Oasis’s “Wonderwall”, and best solo act going to Alejandra Gomez Hoyas (Lochaline) for her rocking version of “No Ordinary Girl” by Kate Alexa.
Centre manager Eoghan Carmichael thanked everyone involved for their efforts. He said: “Like all youth clubs, ours relies on dedicated volunteers to ensure that there are enough activities to satisfy the youngsters, and I congratulate all involved on the terrific success of this evening, which we hope will become an annual fixture.”
