Seashore sculpture contest at Reiss beach
Despite the poor turn out in numbers for the annual seashore sculpture contest at Reiss beach on Friday 11th August, the winning entries were very imaginative and impressive this year. Joint first prizes were awarded to Evelyn Tait, Hanna Tait & Abigail Hughes for their sand sculpture of ‘Tarzan’ and the Hodgeson family for their sculpture of ‘Sponge Bob’.
Marina Swanson, East Caithness Ranger and sculpture competition organiser said:
“A great deal of effort and time went into the winning entries and we were pleased to offer a joint first place position this year. The tides made the start time earlier than usual and perhaps deterred some people from taking part. Those who attended had a most enjoyable morning. Well done to everyone who took part.”
The competition is part of a programme of events organised by the Countryside Rangers in Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service.
The Council’s Rangers are a partnership between The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.
