Easter ranger events in Wester Ross

Four fun events have been organised in the Wester Ross area to get people out and about during the Easter holidays.

At Applecross on Saturday 16 April from 12noon to 4pm there will be a National Amphibian and Reptile Survey training event. Aimed at people interested in helping with the conservation of amphibians and reptiles, local expert David O’Brien will show participants how to survey for these creatures. Once trained, all attending can take part in the national survey or simply gain awareness of the nature in their area.

Children and adults are invited to join Highland Council’s Wester Ross Ranger for a rummage in the rockpools at Gairloch on Tuesday 19 April from 1:30 to 3:30pm.
Catch and learn about the fascinating creatures that live in the secret world of the seashore. Although this event is suitable for all ages - children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Wellies and warm clothing are advised.

For younger children a special Winnie the Pooh fun and games event has been organised to introduce toddlers and young people to the great outdoors. Lindsey Duncan, Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger in Wester Ross said, “Winnie the Pooh is a well loved children’s book that looks at the animals that live in our woods.  This fun event for families with children under 8 will help you explore the local woods and learn a little about what lives there.”

Suitable for most push chairs, the event is at Ullapool Riverside Paths on Wednesday 20 April from 1:30 to 3pm. The meeting place will be Morefield public car park.

At Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve take a “Peek in the Pond” on Thursday 21 April, 2 to 4pm and go beastie hunting. Have you ever wondered what lurks beneath the water? How many creatures can we find?  Wellie boots would be advisable and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The Highland Council’s countryside rangers run many events and guided walks which aim to help raise awareness and encourage appreciation of the scenery, wildlife and heritage of the Highlands. This wide range of events and activities is aimed at local communities and visitors alike.

For further information and to book a place on any of the events please contact Lindsey Duncan on tel: 01854 613904. Meeting places for each event will be given out on booking.
