Opportunities to maximise benefits of national park

The chairman of the Cairngorms National Park Authority has urged Highland Councillors to work closely with the authority to maximise the benefits of having a national park on the doorstep.

David Green (pictured right) made his plea in a presentation on the work of the national park authority to the Council's Planning Environmental and Development Committee.

Set up 8 years ago, the park is twice the size of the Lake District National Park and covers five local council areas in Scotland, stretching from Killiecrankie to the Slochd and Strathdon to Laggan.

Mr Green, a former convener of The Highland Council, said: "Over the past 8 years we have established a number of exciting partnerships.  The Council has been closely involved with the developent of the park authority since its inception and my plea to the council is for both of us to maximise the opportunities that flow from having a national park on our doorstep."
