Positive report by inspectors for Glencoe Primary School

Glencoe Primary School has received a very positive report following an inspection by HMle.

During their visit the inspectors identified particular strengths including: attainment in language and mathematics; children's successes in wider achievement activities such as outdoor sports; eco activities and charity work; the support from the local community and use of the local environment to enhance children's learning; and the positive ethos and supportive teamwork at the school which results in happy, motivated children.

In their report they stated that the children are enthusiastic and engaged with their learning, and that staff work very effectively together with parents and the community to support learning. Children have positive relationships with staff and with each other, and playa central role in taking responsibility for school improvements through their involvement in eco and health committees and the Pupil Council. Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour.

The inspectors observed that the children's listening and talking skills are very well developed. Children at the school write well and use these skills across the curriculum. In maths, pupils were accurate and confident in making calculations and made good use of ICT. Particular note was taken of the children's achievements in additional activities, which were described as many and varied. Overall, staff at the school provide a positive learning environment to help children achieve their potential.

Marylin MacDonald, Head Teacher, said: "I am delighted with the HMle report which highlights the dedication and excellent teamwork among all staff, the very supportive parents and local community and our enthusiastic learners in Glencoe Primary School."

Jim Shepherd, Chairperson of the school's Parent Council, commented: "I am delighted that Glencoe Primary School has received recognition from HMle. The pupils are a credit to the local community in the way they have worked in improving the environment around the school and in their obvious enthusiasm for learning. As Chairperson of the school's Parent Council I thank the staff for their continuing efforts to make the school a challenging and fun place for them to learn."

The Inspectors recommended that the school continue to develop the curriculum, and also involve staff, children and parents more in supporting individual learners. HMle felt that the school is very well placed to improve further and will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
