Ward Forum to discuss Nigg Yard development
The development of Nigg Yard is the theme for a joint Highland Council Ward Forum of the East Sutherland and Edderton, Cromarty Firth and Tain and East Ross Wards to be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 13 December at the Duthac Centre in Tain.
Presentations will be given by Alastair Kennedy of Global Energy, the new owners of the yard, Geoff Robson of The Highland Council and Martin Johnson of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, followed by a question and answer session. The range of issues to be covered include: future plans for the yard as well as discussion about how HIE and The Highland Council can support local businesses and communities get ready to take forward the opportunities that arise.
The Forum will be chaired by Councillor Ian Ross, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Planning Environment and Development Committee. Councillor Ross is also a local councillor on the Council’s East Sutherland and Edderton Ward.
Councillor Ross said: “Given the potential importance of Nigg to the local economy, I am delighted to welcome Global Energy to the Ward Forum. I am looking forward to hearing about plans for the yard as well as the opportunities for local business and communities throughout East Sutherland and Easter Ross. I am sure there will be a lot of local interest in the theme, especially given how many people used to be employed at the yard and I look forward to positive discussion and debate.”
