Pupils move into new Ullapool Residence
A new school residence in Ullapool opens its doors for the first time on Monday.
The residence, built at a cost of £750,000, is located within the grounds of Ullapool High School and, initially, will be home to nine pupils who live in the remote peninsula of Scoraig, who have previously been accommodated in local lodgings.
They will be greeted by new Residence Officer, Joan Gordon and newly appointed house parents Wendy Cameron and Yvonne Munro.
The children and their parents have had a great deal of input into the interior decoration and furnishings of the residence, which features en suite facilities in bedrooms, a kitchen and lounge/dining area.
Margaret Anne Beaton, who manages the five school residences in the Highlands for The Highland Council said: “The children are very excited about moving in on Monday. The three nights in the residence next week will help them get used to their new surroundings before they move in after the festive break.
“The Council is very grateful for the support of the “Ullapool landladies” who have cared well for the Scoraig pupils over many years. Children have had many happy experiences in their lodgings and will, I am sure, continue to keep in touch with them. We hope that parents and pupils will be equally happy within the new Residence.”
The Council also provides residences for pupils attending Ardnamurchan High School, Mallaig High School, Plockton High School and Portree High School.
