HMIe Report on Strathdearn Primary School, Tomatin
Strathdearn Primary School, Tomatin, has been commended in an inspection report for its courteous and hardworking pupils; its high levels of attainment in English language, its accommodation and facilities and its relationships at all levels.
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education judged that all aspects of the work of the 41-pupil school represented very good or good practice. They recognised both the high quality of teaching and pastoral care.
The Inspectors also made a limited number of recommendations for the school which included improving the use of information and communications technology to broaden pupils’ experiences in mathematics and English language. The school was also asked to publicise its aims more widely and ensure that higher attaining pupils are fully challenged.
The school and the education authority have been asked to prepare an action plan which will be shared with parents and carers.
Commenting on the report, Kirsteen MacConnell, Head Teacher, said, "I am very pleased with the report as I feel it reflects the positive ethos of the school and the opportunities we provide for all children to achieve. Our positive teamwork, commitment to improving the school and partnerships with parents and the community have been recognised. We have already begun to address the issues raised in the report with the continuing support of everyone connected with the school."
Councillor for the area, Kathleen Matheson, said: "There are not many schools anywhere where the children report that they are so proud of their school and are so happy in it. Combined with that, or perhaps because of that, the level of attainment is consistently very high. The HMIe report reflects this, as expected. It is an excellent report. Well done to all concerned – staff and pupils alike."
The chairperson of the School Board, Kate Steer, said: "Parents will be delighted that the school has received such a positive report. It reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of the staff, pupils and parents who all contribute to the education process and school life."
