Elections for the Cairngorms National Park Authority attracts 16 candidates

There will be a contest in four of the five communities within the Cairngorms National Park area entitled to have a representative on the Board of the Park Authority.  The uncontested ward covers Aviemore, Boat of Garten, Coylumbridge and Feshiebridge. The successful candidate is Willie McKenna, 3 Dellmhor, Aviemore, who will be declared elected from 17 March.

A total of 15 candidates will contest the other four wards. Ballot papers will be posted to all eligible electors in each of the four wards where there is a contest on Tuesday 22 February 2011, and must be returned by 4pm on Thursday 17 March 2011, if they are to be included in the counting of votes.

The candidates are: -

Ward 1 - Highland/Perth & Kinross, (2,983 voters, main communities - Blair Atholl, Dalwhinnie, Kingussie, Laggan and Newtonmore).

Candidates: 
1.  Robert Cumming - The Keepers, Glentruim, Newtonmore
2.  David John Fallows - Garden Lodge, 1 School Gardens, Dulnain Bridge
3.  Peter Hebdon - Invereen, Golf Course Road, Newtonmore

Ward 2 – Highland (3,101 voters, main communities - Aviemore, Boat of Garten, Coylumbridge and Feshiebridge).

Candidate:
1.  Willie McKenna - 3 Dellmhor, Aviemore

Ward 3 – Highland (4,088 voters, main communities - Carrbridge, Cromdale, Grantown and Nethybridge).

Candidates:
1.  Duncan MacKellar - Wallacestone, Mossie Road, Grantown-on-Spey
2.  Mary McCafferty - Cruitiain, Skye of Curr, Dulnain Bridge
3.  Don Scobbie - 22 Seafield Court, Grantown-on-Spey
4.  Ewan Sutton - Rhynvie, Grant Road, Grantown-on-Spey
5.  Charlie Whelan - Viewmount, Skye of Curr, Dulnain Bridge

Ward 4 – Moray (956 voters, main communities - Cockbridge, Glenlivet, Strathdon and Tomintoul).

Candidates: 
1.  Eleanor Mackintosh - Tombreckachie Farm, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch
2.  Charlotte Milburn - Easterton, Glenbuchat, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire
3.  Jo Smith - Chapel House, Corgarff, Aberdeenshire

Ward 5 - Aberdeenshire/Angus/Perth & Kinross (2,247 voters, main communities - Ballater and Braemar).

Candidates:
1.  Geva Blackett - Clunie Cottage, Invercauld, Braemar
2.  Alasdair Colquhoun - 11 St Andrews Terrace, Braemar
3.  Katrina Farquhar, Kirkstile, Logie Coldstone, Aboyne
4.  Philip Swan - 30 Monaltrie Avenue, Ballater

The five community representatives will serve for four years on the 19-member CNPA board, which also comprises seven members appointed by Scottish Ministers and another seven, who are nominated to the board by the five Councils in the Park area - Highland (2), Aberdeenshire (2), Moray (1), Angus (1) and Perth & Kinross (1).
