Inverness Common Good funds Highlanders’ Museum redevelopment

The City of Inverness Common Good Fund has helped boost a £3 million  fundraising campaign for the redevelopment of The Highlanders’ Museum at Fort George near Inverness.

Members of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee this week approved a £130,000 contribution from the Common Good Fund towards the museums’ redevelopment costs.

Provost of Inverness Jimmy Gray said: “I am delighted that the Inverness Common Good Fund is supporting the redevelopment of The Highlanders’ Museum. The museum will bring major positive benefits to tourism within the area and will provide strong links with Culloden Visitor Centre. Not only will it be of major benefit to visitors but a new education programme will provide excellent opportunities for our young people.”

Welcoming this significant contribution from the Inverness Common Good Fund, Major General Seymour Monro CBE, LVO said: “We have now passed the half way mark in our fundraising having reached at total of £1.65 million. We are extremely grateful to the Provost and members of the Inverness City Committee who have supported our campaign through the Inverness Common Good Fund. It demonstrates the very strong links between Inverness and the Regiment throughout our history to the present day.”
