New head teacher for Millburn Academy
A new head teacher has been appointed for Millburn Academy, Inverness. He is Gavin MacLean who is currently head teacher at Glen Urquhart High School, Drumnadrochit.
Mr MacLean’s original specialist subject was Physical Education. He started teaching at Dingwall Academy, and then moved to Fortrose Academy where he was promoted to senior teacher and became involved with pupil support.
He spent a period in Perth and Kinross as principal teacher of physical education and acting assistant head at Crieff High School with curriculum, pupil support and guidance responsibilities.
On his return to the Highlands he was appointed as depute head teacher pupil support at Inverness High School, then acting head teacher at Kilchuimen Academy, Fort Augustus before he moved as head teacher to Glen Urquhart High School.
He said: “I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to continue the high quality work being undertaken in Millburn Academy. I am particularly looking forward to working in partnership with pupils, staff and parents in meeting the variety of challenges facing schools, young people and education in the coming years.”
Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee, Councillor Bill Fernie said: “We are delighted to have appointed Gavin MacLean, to head teacher of Millburn Academy where I am sure he will continue the great work already ongoing there. All schools face new challenges and opportunities and I wish Mr MacLean well in his new role there.”
Parent Council Chair, Sean Kelly said: “We are delighted to have been involved with Gavin's successful appointment which was from a very strong field of applicants. We wish him every success in his move and look forward to offering our full support in his new role.”
Current head teacher Delia Thornton will be retiring at the end of April.
