Ullapool park to be given a facelift

Works are due to begin on a project to up-grade Am Pollan Park in Ullapool next week.

A Community Consultation, held in September 2009 by The Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service, identified the project as a priority for up-grading as part of the Council’s capital programme for environmental improvements.

A sum of £44,000 has been allocated in the Planning and Development programme towards implementing the project and it is also being part financed by the Scottish Government and European Community Leader 2007-2013 programme providing an overall project budget of £80,000.

The project will aim to enhance Am Pollan as an attractive public open space and will include a new stone boundary wall, a promenade style path with railings, up-grading of steps as well as new entrance gates and seating.

The contract for the project has been awarded to Anderson Building and Construction Ltd and work is due to commence on site on Monday 24th January 2011 for a period of 8 weeks.  The park and adjoining pavement will be closed for this period and the public are asked to follow advisory signage for diversions.
