Convener welcomes chance to showcase the Highlands

The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Sandy Park is welcoming the chance the Barclays Scottish Golf Open has given the Highlands to showcase its attractions to the world, with 450 million households likely to tune into the television coverage on Sky on Thursday and Friday and BBC on Saturday and Sunday.

Councillor Park, who lives in nearby Auldearn and is a keen golfer, is hugely looking foward to the event.

He said: "The Highland Council is delighted that Castle Stuart has succeeded in bringing this prestigious event to the Highlands. The Barclays Scottish Open is one of the largest sporting events the area has ever hosted and with the potential to reach 450 million households through TV coverage truly puts the Highlands on a global stage. The organisers at the European Tour and Castle Stuart have worked tirelessly with the Council and its local partners to ensure the event is a great success and that it remains here for many years to come. We are all aiming to offer visitors a memorable tournament and a warm Highland welcome.”

Grant Sword said: "The response from everyone we have approached for help in staging this event has been overwhelmingly positive and we are looking forward to welcoming the world's best golfers to our links."
