Summer of fun for city youngsters

City youngsters are been kept very active during their summer holiday with 70 P1 to P7 children enjoying a wide range of exciting activities during a week long activity camp at Charleston Community Complex.

This week each day the children have been taking part in four different activities, three sports based such as shinty, zumba, football and basketball and a creative workshop including t-shirt design, mask making and face painting.

Next week will see another summer camp run at Millburn Academy and although places are filling up fast, there are still spaces available for anyone wishing to take part.

Organised by the Council’s Active School Co-ordinators, the popular camps run Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 3.30pm and are for primary aged children.  Funding has come from the Ward Discretionary Budgets of all the Inverness Wards.

Active Schools Co-ordinator Jennifer Herbert said:  “The kids coming along this week are having lots of fun trying new activities and making new friends.  They are so busy they don’t seem to mind that the sun has not been shining.  Everyday we are offering different activities and the hard work of organising the camps is worth it when you see the delight on the kids faces. A big thank you must go to all the city councillors who contributed from their ward budgets. Without their support, we would not have been able to run such an extensive programme of events. We do have some places available for next weeks camp based at Millburn so anyone interested in coming along should book a place as soon as possible.”

Cost is £25 per week plus £5 for each additional sibling and anyone interested should visit www.highlandeventsandfestivals.co.uk or telephone 01463 220128.
