Giant town twinning paintings unveiled
To mark the 30th anniversary of the Twinning of Inverness with the French resort of La Baule in 1981, Provost Jimmy Gray will receive two giant paintings produced by pupils from Cauldeen and Crown Primary Schools at a ceremony in Inverness Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday 7th June at 10am.
The paintings, which measure 10 foot by 3 foot, will be taken to France for display later in the year by a delegation led by the Mayor of La Baule who will be visiting the Highland Capital as part of the town twinning programme to plant three trees, one at each school and in Bellfield Park, to mark each of the successful decades of friendship that have past; and to celebrate the growing number of friendships that are developing between children in both communities.
Provost Jimmy Gray said: “It is really pleasing to see the next generation of Town Twinners discovering all three of our sister communities and long may it continue. I know that, like me, my counterparts in La Baule, St Valery and Augsburg value enormously the involvement of young people and especially those in our primary schools.”
