Highland first for young wind musicians
As a ‘first’ for young musicians in Highland, a group of highly talented young wind players are to participate in a residential course being held from 13 - 15 June at Kilravock Castle near Inverness.
In addition to the pupils from Highland schools, many participants are travelling from Perthshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Argyllshire to take part. The musicians will be tutored by Bozza Ensemble – a respected London group led by ex-Highland musician Adam Mackenzie (bassoon).
The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer Norman Bolton said: “This new event is a unique opportunity for young players to be pushed to the highest of standards with the support of experienced professionals. Being a residential course means that there are opportunities to work without time constraints and I hope we will be able to give the youngsters a real insight into the world of professional musicians standards.”
The course will finish with an informal public concert held in Rose Hall at Kilravock Castle. This will begin at 5pm on Wednesday 15th June and will provide a real focus for the work taking place during the course. The concert is free and members of the public are more than welcome to attend.
The organisers are grateful to The Highland Council and Enterprise Music Scotland for their support.
