Motorists respond to Kessock Bridge pleas

Scotland Transerv have thanked motorists  for their  very positive response to pleas to ease traffic congestion on the A9 Kessock Bridge during  urgent repairs by car sharing, travelling by public transport, home working and avoiding crossing the bridge at peak times. 

ScotRail has confirmed that it carried between 50 and 75 percent more customers than normal during peak services into Inverness from the north.   Observers on the bridge from Scotland Transerv also noted that car occupancy had increased significantly from normal and actual numbers of cars certainly reduced. Observers also reported an increased number of cyclists on the bridge. 

All these measures helped to keep delays to travellers to a very respectable level.   However there is also a note of caution as Scotland Transerv want to ensure that this good start does not encourage drivers back into cars. 

A spokesperson for Scotland Transerv said: “The message is thank you - and please keep on doing what you did this morning to help alleviate traffic. Please do not go back to your car.”

An additional measure for the benefit of the public sees Scotland Transerv working with another operating company, Bear Scotland, who are providing the services of a multi functional vehicle which can be used very quickly to assist any motorist in a queued vehicle.
