Trade apprentice opportunities with The Highland Council

The Highland Council is currently advertising six vacancies for a range of trade apprenticeships within its internal Housing and Property Building Maintenance Team. These positions are offering fixed term four year apprenticeships in either plumbing, electrical, joinery, building or painting trades based at various locations across the Highlands.

The addition of a further six apprentices will ensure the continuation of the successful apprenticeship programme within the Housing and Property Service and maintain the total number of apprentices at 24.

Steve Barron, Director of Housing and Property, said: “It is particularly important to try and maintain the levels of training despite the current economic situation affecting our local construction sector as this will help to ensure that a skilled workforce is available for the future.”

Councillor Carolyn Wilson, Chairman of the Council’s Resources Committee, said: “The Council is committed to promoting apprenticeships and the energy and enthusiasm of these young people is great to see. We would be particularly keen to see more applications from girls this year as these are excellent career opportunities for both sexes.”

Further details and application forms are available from the Council’s website http://www.highland.gov.uk/jobs.htm and the closing date for applications is Friday 24th June.
