Council employees doing their bit for Bike Week

Louise Jones, Health Promoting Schools Manager, The Highland Council and NHS Highland, certainly entered into the sprit of Bike Week by cycling to Inverness from her home in Kincraig and back home at night.  En route to Council headquarters on Glenurquhart Road, Louise was joined in Aviemore by Ailsa Villegas, Sustainable Development Officer who also cycled the hilly journey to work. 

Louise made her six-hour 76-mile return journey on Monday - two days after completing the arduous 50-mile Highland Cross duathlon on Saturday, which involved 20 miles of running and 30 miles of cycling. 

She completed the Highland Cross in 5 hours 9 minutes, finishing just behind Pippa Middleton, sister of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. 

Louise said: "I am delighted to have played my part in promoting Bike Week by cycling to work and back home. I saved £15 worth of fuel in the process. I would encourage everyone to have a go at biking to work this week, not only is it great for the environment, it's also good for your health and wellbeing too."

Ailsa said: “The Highland Council actively encourages staff to cycle to work and has received the cycle friendly employer award. Many staff will be cycling to work during bike week and will be calculating the emissions and costs saved. This will help reduce congestion during bridge closure week and the hope is that staff will continue to cycle to work in the future.”
