Highland support for Perth city bid

Highland Councillors are supporting a bid by Perth and Kinross Council to gain city status for Perth to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Perth is likely to be the only Scottish applicant, competing for the honour with 12 or more towns in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Council recognised the case for Perth gaining city status is strong, given its role as a centre for business, tourism and culture and that it held city status from Medieval times until 1975.
