Inverness social club brings over 50s together for a blether

People over the age of 50 in the Inverness area are being invited to drop in to a social club at the Spectrum Centre on Fridays for lunch and a blether.

Organised by The Highland Council, the over 50s social club “Glints of Gold” is hosting a programme of events every Friday. Participants are welcome to join in for soup and sandwich lunches at £3 from 12 noon which is followed by a talk each week starting at 2pm.

Kate MacLean, Highland Council’s Community Development Officer said: “The aim of the club is to increase social opportunities for older people, through lunches, special interest groups, and keep-fit classes.

“We want to encourage folk to get involved in their communities, and not become isolated at home. It’s especially important during certain stages of life such as retirement, moving house or losing a spouse or partner that people remain socially active.”

A range of talks already included in the programme will cover: reading, computers, films, crime prevention, and history, keep fit, equal opportunities, archives, quilting, forestry and health. The club will not run on East Friday, 22 April.

Anyone interested in attending should come along to the Spectrum Centre, Farraline Park (at Inverness Bus Station) on Fridays at 12 noon or contact Kate MacLean on 01463 704104,  or 07900057136 for further information.
