Ranger takes advantage of Spring tides to explore West Ross shoreline

Highland Council’s Wester Ross Countryside Ranger is inviting people to get their wellies on and join her on a beach-combing exploration at Laide, north of Gairloch.
 
This shoreline adventure takes place on Sunday 20th March from 12:30 to 2:30pm during the lowest tides of the year - the Spring, or Vernal Equinox.

Areas of the shore normally hidden by sea will be uncovered allowing participants to catch a glimpse of the fascinating creatures that live in this secret world.

Lindsey Duncan, Highland Council’s Wester Ross ranger said: “We should find all sorts of creatures scuttling around in this intriguing under-water world. I hope to find starfish, echinoderms, anemones, hermit and shore crabs, shrimps and barnacles, sea urchins and slugs, colourful seaweeds and sponges. Molluscs such as chitons, mussels, whelks and limpets will be a likely find and if we are lucky we might see some small fish such as blennies.

This event is suitable for all ages but all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All participants should bring wellington boots and wear warm clothing.
