New kerbside recycling calendars available online

This year a new search function will be launched on the Council’s website which allows householders with access to the internet to find their 2011 e-recycling collection calendar.

The Highland Council’s Waste Management Unit will not be delivering kerbside recycling collection calendars in 2011, unless they are making changes to a service. Householders that do not have access to the web can obtain a printed copy by contacting the Council’s Service Centre on 01349 886603.

Currently over 95,000 householders in Highland receive a kerbside recycling collection service.  Every year, householders are issued with a calendar to remind them when to put out their recycling containers for collection.  The process of delivering these is both time consuming and costly, therefore the new e-calendars will be a more efficient way to deliver this information.

Councillor John Laing Chair of the TECS Committee said: “For everyone who has access to the internet, I think that this is a good idea.  More and more people use the internet as a first point of contact to access information therefore this facility will be quick, useful and easy to use.  Using the web to help deliver our services to the public is more efficient and effective.  I hope that, given the ease to find out when the recycling containers are going to be collected, it will encourage even more residents to recycle.  We have also set up a special phone number for anyone without access to the internet to request a paper copy of their calendar.”

Access to the calendars is now available by visiting http://www.highland.gov.uk/kerbsidecalendars.htm Anyone who does not  have access to the internet and would like to receive a paper copy of their calendar should call 01349 886603.
