National Young Quality Scot Awards 2011

Ten Highland Young people recently made a long journey in very wintry conditions down to the National Young Quality Scot Awards in Dumfries where they were treated to an exciting programme of activities, received their awards and presented a short drama on what it is like to be young in Highland.

The Young Quality Scot Award is a national award that recognises the voluntary work that young people carry out in their communities; the awards are a partnership between Quality Scotland and local councils across Scotland.

Their achievements include involvement in youth forums and parliaments, volunteering in the community and cultural, sporting and citizenship projects. 

In February they took part in a local event at Badaguish outdoor centre near Aviemore, which included interactive workshops on team building, communication, leadership and presentation skills. This was also an opportunity to get to know each other and create their own personal presentation on what it’s like to be young in Highland.

The National event was hosted by Dumfries and Galloway Council at the DG One Leisure Complex where the young people were treated to a range of entertainment including circus performances; Peridot Street dancers; Jamie Afro Archer and Emma’s Imagination.
