Council welcomes Scrabster Harbour funding announcement
The Highland Council Convener Sandy Park, has welcomed the decision of the Scottish Government to allocate £2.2 million to the Scrabster Harbour Project, thereby completing the £20 million funding package to upgrade facilities to take advantage of the emerging marine energy sector in the Pentland Firth and waters around Orkney.
Councillor Park, who is Chairman of the Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership, recently wrote to Cabinet Secretary John Swinney urging the Scottish Government to bridge the funding gap.
He said: "This is really great news for the Caithness and North Sutherland economy. I have been very impressed with the ambitious plans of Scrabster Harbour to develop their facilities and I wish them every success in capitalising on marine renewables and oil and gas activity taking place in the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters."
