Closure of Dingwall swimming pool
The swimming pool at Dingwall Leisure Centre was closed at 11.30am this morning due to health and safety concerns.
Work on the roof beams above the pool was scheduled to start on the 25th April. An inspection was carried out at 10am today and there were no problems with the beams but at 11.30am staff noticed that one of the roof beams had come out of its securing bracket so the decision was immediately taken to close the swimming pool.
The pool was empty at the time so no evacuation of swimmers was required.
Structural engineers have returned to assess the problem and it is hoped that the scheduled work can be brought forward. In the meantime the pool will remain closed to all users. The rest of the building is fully operational and will remain open as normal.
Manager of the Dingwall Leisure Centre Scott Lindsay said: “Obviously swimmers will be disappointed but their health and safety is of utmost concern to us. As soon as the engineers have completed their inspection and prepared a report we should have a better idea of the work involved. When I have a clear idea of when the pool will be able to re-open I will be letting all our customers know.”
