Students from Augsburg visit Inverness

21 students from Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany have spent 3 weeks visiting Inverness and the Highlands.  The students, who are aged between 18-20, are all studying public administration at the vocational college Berufsschule 5 in Augsburg, which is twinned with Inverness. 

Their visit was funded through a European Union project and they slit their time between Inverness College and on work placements with The Highland Council, which covered a wide range of Council activities, from Social Work to Roads and Community Works. 

The visit enabled the students to experience how local government works in Scotland.  The students valued the experience they had  with The Highland Council and really appreciated the opportunities provided for them. 

The students also had the chance to see other parts of the Highlands.  Three students – Markus Hosler, Bettina Jung and Linda Walcher - visited Skye where they saw the benefits of European funding on the Portree – Staffin road and a proposed upgrading at Sconser Pier, via an extension to the assembly area and improvements to the jetty.
