Ross County and The Highland Council make dreams come true

Students at schools throughout the Highlands will have the chance to meet JLS or Olly Murs on Saturday 2 July by entering the “Your Choice to Healthy Living” competition.

The X-Factor runners up will be playing at the Ross County Football Club, Victoria Stadium, in Dingwall this summer, with tickets still available.

Councillor Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee, welcomed the competition saying: “We are always looking at innovative ways in which we can communicate and connect with young people in the Highlands. This competition is a great way of raising awareness among this age group of healthy living and healthy lifestyles while offering an amazing prize in the process.”

The competition, which was launched this week, runs until midnight on 19 June. Up for grabs are a pair of general admission tickets and a meet and greet opportunity, one for JLS and another for Olly Murs.

To be in with a chance of winning these fabulous prizes, all that entrants have to do is describe, in 140 characters or fewer, why they think it is important to be active and healthy.

Each school across the Highlands will receive an information pack which will give students further information about entering this fantastic competition.

Louise Jones, Health Promoting Schools Manager with The Highland Council and NHS Highland explained: “Through the ‘Your Choice to Healthy Living’ initiative we have teamed up with Ross County to create this competition with a really amazing prize.

“The aim is to get young people in the Highlands thinking about leading active and healthy lifestyles. We hope to use the creative ideas that we receive through the competition in future Your Choice to Healthy Living projects.”

Marvin from JLS added: “Being in JLS means that it is especially important for us to keep healthy! We enjoy keeping fit and go to the gym about four or five times a week, if we get chance. Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be boring! We keep fit by exercising, dancing and eating healthily and we love it!”

In the Highlands, the ‘Your Choice to Healthy Living’ initiative provides a framework for effective partnership working and joint planning for improving Health and Wellbeing in local communities.

The Your Choice Implementation Plan demonstrates innovative improvements that are being made to services and opportunities within Highland communities. Examples include the low-cost award winning 'High Life' scheme, community library initiatives, school meals and the adoption of key strategic plans such as the NHS Highland led 'Healthy Weight Strategy'. The Your Choice Implementation Plan is continuously updated and the latest version is available on the Council’s website at: /learninghere/childrensservices/healthyliving/

Tickets for the concert are still available from http://www.seetickets.com/ priced from £36-£42 or by calling 08716 207060.
